Read Acts 9:1-9

He set off. When he got to the outskirts of Damascus, he was suddenly dazed by a blinding flash of light. As he fell to the ground, he heard a voice: “Saul, Saul, why are you out to get me?” (Acts 9:3, 4 MSG)

Saul’s conversion is an important story in scripture… but we haven’t gotten there yet. His actual conversion comes a few verses later. Right now, God has gotten Saul’s attention (albeit in dramatic fashion) but at this point in the story, Saul has the opportunity to respond. What would he do? How would he respond? Take away the blinding light and really this is the same opportunity we have everyday. God is speaking and we are learning to listen and respond. Remember, when God speaks stuff happens. God spoke creation into being. What is God wanting to speak and create in you? Through you?

Today marks the beginning of a new year. Many people will make resolutions to try to live differently in 2013. Me? I just want to learn to listen more attentively and respond more fully. I don’t need or want the drama. I want to learn to listen to the still small voice of our creator. Create in me a clean heart Jesus. Renew a right Spirit in me. I want to join in the fun and be part of the amazing work you have planned for 2013.
