Read Psalm 145:17-21
Everything God does is right- the trademark on all his works is love. (Psalm 145:17 MSG)
My son is really into playing super heroes and bad guys. He loves to pretend to be Superman or Batman or Iron Man or Spiderman… or, if I’m being honest, even when he is playing with Pet Pals or his sisters dolls, he finds a way to turn it into a classic battle of good verses evil. I love his imagination and I’ve always been a sucker for a good super hero story. One of the things about the characters in these stories, both good and bad, is that often they will leave a calling card behind at the scene of whatever happened. The Riddler leaves a question mark. Spiderman wraps the bad guys up in a web and sometimes even leaves a note for the police. You get the idea. They leave a calling card so there can be no mistaking who is behind whatever happened.
I love how Eugene Peterson paraphrases this verse in The Message. “…the trademark on all his works is love.” It’s like, if we want to know where God is, look for his trademark. Where do you see love… real love being lived out? That’s where you will find God, or at least evidence that God has been at work. Love is God’s handiwork. Love is God’s calling card. Love is God’s trademark.
God is alive and well and wants nothing more than to express himself both in and through you and me today. We bear his trademark. Let’s pass it on today.
