Read John 1:1-13
The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it. (John 1:5 NLT)
As I write this, the sun is not yet up. I am sitting in our dining room, typing by nothing but the glow of my iPad and the lights on our Christmas tree. If someone were to walk in the room he/she would likely ask the inevitable question, “Why are you sitting in the dark?” Some would add, “Do you want me to turn a light on for you?” Others might be so bold as to just flip the switch. From my perspective, I much prefer to watch as the sun comes up and begins to overtake the darkness. I love to watch the darkness try to desperately hold on, but it never wins. Even against the dim light from my screen or the string of dollar store lights on our tree the darkness doesn’t stand a chance. Am I sitting in the dark? No, I’ve got a front row seat to watch the light shine in the darkness!
Wherever darkness may seem to have won the day, cling to the truth that the light shines in the darkness and the darkness can never extinguish it. We are not left to wander around in the dark. We are free to live in the light… the one who is the true light, who gives light to everyone who came into the world. Jesus. Name it. Claim it. Live it!
