I had a conversation with a good friend this week who pastor’s another community and they have started doing this new thing. Essentially, all of the “leaders” get together on a Wednesday night once a month for a time of teaching, discussion, role-playing and accountability. The goal of these get-togethers is to make these people better “leaders.” When he talked in more detail about what he was hoping for, he was giving people skills to be better recruiters and managers. It was all about getting more volunteers and training them to do the various roles that were needed to run the mechanism of the machine of the church. I’m almost positive a lot of these ideas came from the book Simply Strategic Volunteers by Tony Morgan and Tim Stevens. I’ve got the book, I’ve read the book, I’ve used most of the ideas and practical advice in the book before.
