For the last three days I have been part of some long, difficult meetings with the wider church body of the ELCA in North Carolina. There is a lot of good things that come from meetings such as this, but at the same time those on opposing sides of challenging issues often leave with hurt feelings and uncertainty about what lays ahead. This has certainly been true during this assembly. Hebrews 13 served as a perfectly timed reminder to me of God's constant presence (and the reality that this is a good thing!) as well as our call to continue to love one another… to show hospitality to strangers (or those we may think are strange).
Hebrews is a letter that closes with the words, "Grace be with you all." I find those words to be a much needed reminder of the truth that grace is with us all… and remains with us even in the midst of our disappointment, or disagreement.
