Morning Reflections – 1 Thessalonians 5

I love this passage because it unapologetically calls Jesus followers
to live differently… authentically… in such a manner that is a
reflection of what Jesus has done (and is doing) in our lives. It is a
blatant reminder of our identity. We DO NOT belong to the night or
darkness, so let's live like salvation is here and now; not just in the
life to come. I want to be about living life as follower of Jesus. I
love this, but what makes this text so exciting for me is that right
there in the midst of this call to live, we are reminded of the breadth
of what Jesus has done. He died for us; not because we are already
awake or living right or walking in the light or however we want to say
it. No, as it says in verse 10, "He died for us so that, whether we are
awake or asleep, we may live together with him." Thank God I don't have
to have my junk together to receive the gift of life with Jesus. If
that were the case then this gift would always be out of reach for me
and for everyone else.
